CEDA Purchases A New Sunfish Sailboat in 2010
| In 1997 the Camp Eastman Development Association handed over the keys to the new boathouse on Larry Creek, continuing our long-standing strong support of the Aquatics program at camp. In 2010, CEDA again focused on making improvements in this important program area. Through a combination of grants and donated funds, CEDA raised the $4,300 necessary to purchase a new Sunfish sailboat to add to the Aquatics program’s fleet. |

Designed in 1952, the Sunfish is a model of simplicity and function. The lateen sail plan requires just two lines and the boat can be set up and sailing in minutes, making it a perfect choice for the small boat sailing classes taught on the Mississippi river during summer camp.
CEDA purchased the sailboat directly from the manufacturer, LaserPerformance, Inc, who offers discounted pricing and delivery charges to non-profit organizations. The sailboat was delivered in the fall and will be ready to get wet when the camp season begins this summer. |

| CEDA Purchases New Kayaks for 2009 |
| |
Kayaks have recently become an integral part of Camp Eastman’s waterfront program. The one man boats have become so popular that the two previously purchased by CEDA are not enough to keep up with the number of scouts wanting to use them.
| In 2009, through a combination of grants and donated funds, CEDA has raised the $3,100 necessary to purchase four new kayaks and equipment. The new recreational kayaks were purchased from Confluence Watersports of Easley, South Carolina and are Prodogy 12.0 models, manufactured by the perception© kayak company (www.perceptionkayaks.com). They are just over 12 feet long, support up to 350 pounds, and include a waterproof storage compartment. The purchase also included paddles and personal flotation devices. The boats and equipment will be delivered in time for the 2009 summer camp season. |
| The CEDA Board also recently approved funding for maintenance on the Hobie Cat sailboat, which included a new mast float, a sail bag, and repair of one of the boats pontoons. Mark Porth of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa is generously donating his time and skills to effect repairs on the sailboat. |
