New Signage in Store for Camp Eastman

One of CEDA’s long term goals has been to standardize and improve the signage around camp. Over the past winter, CEDA Board Director Merrill Crawford negotiated an agreement with the City of Dubuque Parks Division to use their specialized equipment at no charge. CEDA then approached the Camp Eastman Properties and Maintenance Committee, who approved a proposal to make new routered wooden signs for Camp Eastman’s campsites, program areas, and landmarks. The Spahn & Rose Lumber Company of Dubuque supplied western cedar for the signboards at a generously discounted price and, with CEDA support, Merrill churned out more than 65 lettered signs over the winter months. Many of the freshly cut unfinished signs were displayed at the CEDA Winter Banquet in March.
In their finished form, the signboards will be sealed and the letters painted before being mounted and installed on new posts and other support structures. The first examples began appearing at the C.O.P.E. course this summer, with additional signs being installed throughout camp as money becomes available to purchase necessary support posts, brackets, etc.
You can help!
On average, CEDA estimates the cost to finish and install a sign at $45.00. We welcome donations from individuals or troops to fund this project. The donor of each $45.00 gift will have the right to stipulate that a particular campsite or program area sign be elevated to the next available priority on the installation schedule. We may even be able to adjust the calendar to enable you to be present and participate in the installation of a sign, if you wish. For more information, talk to a CEDA board member or camp commissioner, or drop us an email at ceda@mchsi.com.
As with any donations to CEDA, your support of the Routered Sign Project is tax-deductible.
