Eastman Lodge Restroom Replacement Continues

While replacing the roof is the most noticeable improvement to Eastman Lodge in 2007, CEDA’s project to upgrade the restroom facilities may be the most appreciated this winter. The project includes adding a shower to the restroom, replacing the toilet, and installing a new cabinet sink. Repositioning the bowl and sink will make the restroom as close to ADA specifications as possible. A new mop sink will be added, as well as new floor drains and lighting. The Mississippi Valley Council has allocated $2,174 to the project, while CEDA has committed to raising the additional funds needed to meet the estimated $12,000 price tag for the renovation.
Work began this summer with the removal of the old fixtures. New holes for the plumbing had to be drilled in the lodge floor, and the old holes patched. Next, the walls and shower were framed in, and the shower base was installed. Handling the plumbing duties on the project is Mike Hop and the electrical work is being done by Mike Menke, who are both billing their project time at significantly reduced rates.

After the framing was complete, the new wall paneling was installed and finished. Doors matching the distinct, angled look of the existing lodge closures were constructed. More recently, the floor was tiled to match the rest of the building, additional electrical work and plumbing was done, and the shower walls were installed.
The finishing touches on the project will include installing the toilet, sink, and on-demand water heater, hanging the new doors, installing the ceiling, and other finishing touches. Work on the project will continue throughout the fall. When Eastman Lodge is open in January for scout activities, after the hunting season, winter campers will be able to enjoy a hot shower and the upgraded facilities. This project significantly increases the usefulness of Eastman Lodge, and will play a big part in enhancing the overall Camp Eastman experience for many years to come. |
