A New Vending Center
Anyone searching for a soda (pop, libation, elixir…) at Camp Eastman this summer will get a good look at the new storage building and
vending center constructed by CEDA this spring.
The idea for the vending center first surfaced
as a way to reduce the clutter in the new Trading
Post shelter. In 2001, CEDA Board Director
Terry Ross passed away and after consideration
and discussion, the idea of funding a beverage
center was approved by the board. At that time a
$2000.00 memorial contribution in Terry’s name
was designated on CEDA’s financial reports to go
toward such a project. |

Recent interest by the trading post manager to
obtain a pop storage area, and ultimately the interest
of the Scout Executive toward improving
the trading post brought the issue to the attention
of the board once again. Working with the council,
who agreed to fund the electrical installation
for the building, CEDA submitted a design and
location proposal to the Camp Properties and
Maintenance Committee and obtained approval
to move forward with the project.
Forms were set and the concrete floor was
poured on May 8th. The next weekend saw construction
begin on Thursday afternoon and wrap
up Saturday evening with a building ready for
shingles, ceiling, and a door, which were installed
the following week. The electrical service
was put in next and, after a few coats of paint to
the interior of the structure, on Monday, June 7th,
the pop machines were delivered, the ice machine
was moved, and the new vending center was
open for business. |

Many thanks to Ron and Mickey Keller,
Brad Buckley, Bill Ell, Mike Hausch, Mark and
Kendall Porth, Gary Sheets, Caroline and Steve
Weyer, those, (who shall remain nameless), that
took a turn on a shovel to dig in the electric line,
and all the others who volunteered their time and
expertise to help get the center constructed and
operational. Without their help, going from
groundbreaking to a functioning building in four weekends of work would not have been possible. |
