12 Annual Camp Eastman Development Association Banquet and Auction
|
|
Date: March 3rd, 2007
Place: West Burlington Christian Church 545 Melville St. West Burlington, IA
Doors Open: 4:00 pm Dinner: 6:00 pm |

Plan to attend the 12th Annual CEDA Camp Eastman Reunion Banquet! The banquet is scheduled for March 3rd, 2007 at the West Burlington Christian Church (545 Melville Street.) Doors will open at 4 PM for fellowship, displays and silent auction bidding; dinner will start at 6 PM. Since 1995, the projects undertaken by CEDA have grown in number, complexity, and financial burden. Early projects such as providing gravel for the camp parking lot and installing sand volleyball pits have given way to the construction of an onsite COPE course and the total refurbishing/remodeling of Eastman Lodge, as well as many enhancements to the various program areas of camp. The undertaking of future projects is dependant upon the continued generosity of the supporters of Camp Eastman. The annual banquet is the only participative fund-raiser that CEDA undertakes. (CEDA also funds projects through grant applications and bequests.) The Camp Eastman Reunion Banquet and Auction serves not only as a fund-raising event, but also as an opportunity for many Camp Eastman Scouts and Scouters to gather in fellowship and contribute to the improvement of our collective Heart's Reservation. Funds are raised through the sale of banquet admission tickets as well as through the silent and live auction of donated items. In addition to other door prizes, CEDA will give away a campership to one lucky youth in attendance and plans are underway to provide a unit door prize. (The unit door prize in 2006 was a $300 Fun City Card.)

The Camp Eastman Development Association has received approval from the Camp Committee to refurbish the fire bell located in front of Eastman Lodge. Several decades of harsh Midwest weather have left the bell in a poor state. CEDA plans to remove the bell, mount and post, and have the bell, clapper, headstock, leaver, mount, and other metal parts sandblasted. All of the metal will then be powder-coated with a thermosetting resin that produces an attractive finish and excellent weathering characteristics. Once the bell and frame are ready, they will be remounted on a new post that will be set in cement on the original site.

What is CEDA? |
|
In the course of planning this project, CEDA has been unable to find any detailed historical information about the bell. We would enjoy hearing from anyone who can provide some history about the original project or the bell itself. If you have any information regarding the bell, or know of someone who might be able to provide some details about its history, please contact us at ceda@mchsi.com, or visit our website at www.cedaweb.org. And if you were involved in the original installation of the bell, perhaps you would like to join us when we re-establish one of Camp Eastman’s lasting icons. |

to enhance the Camp Eastman experience. All projects performed at Camp Eastman by CEDA are governed by a Board of Directors and are approved by the Mississippi Valley Council Camp Committee. CEDA was originally formed as the “Tribe of the Silver Tomahawk Alumni Association” when Silver Tomahawk Lodge 80 had been dissolved by the merger of Maheengun Lodge 136 and Lodge 80. TOTSTA had a dual purpose; to build and develop Camp Eastman, and to preserve the customs and traditions of the Tribe of the Silver Tomahawk. The first fund raising banquet was held in 1995. After Lodge 80 was re-chartered in 1997, the organizations focus shifted to the improvement of Camp Eastman and its name was changed to The Camp Eastman Development Association. A continually growing list of the many improvements to Camp Eastman that CEDA has facilitated can be seen on the projects page of our website: www.cedaweb.org/proj_all.
